Birmingham Art Gallery

16th August 2010.

Exhibitions & Events:
  • Aspects Of China
  • Steve McCurry
Recently i vistited the Birmingham Art Gallery to view the temporary exhibtions stated above.
I specifically wanted to go see the "Aspects Of China" exhibition becuase the collection had many different textile and handcrafted peices. Because i have been inspired by a textile artist before i felt it would be intretesting to look at art and textiles from a different approach and culture.
The collection of textiles, handcrafted peices and ceramics was gathered and put together by Dr Joan Waller. Waller was previously a teacher in english at bradford but after meeting a group of Chinese University teachers she moved to teach English Language in China in 1986. Waller then returned to the UK in the 1990's and presented her unique collection of chinese culture.

The work on display represented elegancy and great creative skills. Each indivisual aspect had precise and unique finishes and gave off a great sense of commitment. Each peice of work symbollised a different peice of culture which in ways leads to this whole collection symbollsing and teaching the culture them selves.
