Time To Make A Change

BEAUTY & THE BLEMISH

Looking into advertising, photography and other fields within graphics communication there seems to be an obvious tool that all fields really on. EDITING SOFTWARE.

Adobe Photoshop and other editing software give us huge advantages, you can make photos look better and seem sharper, you can digitally make collages, you can make advertisements and poster and so on. But its tools like these that are know getting a bad vibe from certain areas of public because its being taken to the extreme.

For example looking towards fashion: magazines such as Elle and vogue use editing tools in most of there photos. The most common one that is in some ways becoming the “norm” is Airbrushing. What this does is wipes away blemishes, wrinkles and any imperfect thing surrounding the skin. You may say that Airbrushing has been around since the 1800s but was it really to the extreme that it is today?

Going beyond this Photoshop can go so much further than just airbrushing, you can make people thinner or change the shape of there body. Also there height can be changed and generally anything to make the look perfect.

Photoshop has so many different tools for different circumstance but because of the physical things that can be change, it leaves us questioning whether the picture in front of has the “real” aspects that photoshop tends to get rid of.

In society today it is fair to say that all girls look up to models and celebs that often appear on magazines. This leaves the in a bad situation because girls often want to be like the lady there looking at in the magazine. Looking at it from a 15 year olds view id say I felt cheated. Were being made to believe that there perfect and they have amazing skin when really its been airbrushed and "photoshoped".

This also leaves further damage because if girls are growing up believing that girls/women can truly look like the airbrushed photos they've been looking at, girls are never going to be confident with themselves.

My project evolves around photoshop, the good the bad and the truly ugly. The effects of photoshop are unreal and I will be manipulating phtoshoped photos to show what could really LIES beneath.

Blank Spaces

The idea is to take away the main concept or focus point out of the picture to make the person looking at it try and guess what would have been there or what would have been going on in the situation. I wanted to capture photos that told a story or reflected a memory so i decided to take photos of my friends whilst out. This way i am catching small fragments of people's conversations and taking away half, so its almost like you make up the story.

Missing Faces

I a photo taken whilst out with my friends to edit on Photoshop. I cut all the faces out that were on the picture and replaced then with tree patterns as when I went to Coombe Abbey I was looking at the patterns found on the trees and how it relates to the unique look that humans also have.

Airbrushing.

Yes, another thing I've learnt to do on Photoshop.

I have used one of the pictures I took during a Shoots & Roots meeting to learn how to Airbrush.

The picture below is the picture taken on my Canon with no edits:

The next picture is the edited airbrushed version:

It's not something I'd choose to use all the time but the idea is that i now know how professionals get the look of perfection in there photos.

A bit of Photoshop

It is me but not because I'm vain!, I think this technique would look awesome if i used my younger sister. Really like how its a bit doll like. I edited how big the eyes were first and then i cut out the colour on the eyes and inserted another layer behind the face and added a picture of concurs. Then made it black and white.

Here i used the same principle as above but edited Vintage wallpaper into the eyes and left it in colour.

Typography

To start working in the area i want to go to in uni i have started to work with typography, ive enjoyed it so far so i am interested into making it more relavent to my own work.

The Picture above is a photo of my sketch book, i firstly traced different typefaces out and then worked with photoshop to play around with quotes.

The above picture is another picture of my sketchbook, i decided to take typography further by adding quotes or words into the pictures i had taken. I used photoshop to add some ripped paper onto the image, then added text and cut the text out form the white paper so you can see through the text to the image.

This is one of the pictures enlarged, i changed the opacity of the white paper to you can see what is behind it.
